Asus launches laptop trio with high-performance 11th gen Intel H-series chips

Asus has revealed three laptop lines powered by the newly announced, high-performance 11th gen Intel H/HK mobile CPUs.

The trio, which also boast new Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs, are among the first to be equipped with Intel’s high-performance Tiger Lake-H processors, which also debuted today and come with 6 to 8 cores, Turbo Boost clock speeds up to 5GHz and the ability to boot directly from a RAID0 storage array.

Asus TUF Gaming F16/F17

The lineup starts with Asus’ value gaming laptop brand, the TUF Gaming F15 and F17, which are typically priced between £1,000 and £1,500. The TUF Dash F15 is our current favourite budget gaming laptop and the new models look just as impressive, adding up to 32GB of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM and up to a 240Hz 1080p sRGB display to those 11th-gen H-series Intel CPUs (up to the 8-core Core i9-11900H).

It couples that with one of Nvidia’s impressive RTX 3060 GPUs and an updated cooling system that Asus says will allow for “better performance with less noise”.

Asus ROG Zephyrus M16

The Asus ROG Zephyrus M16 sits at the premium end of Asus’ gaming range and is the successor to 2020’s ROG Zephyrus M15. It couples the GeForce RTX 3070 GPU (or the new RTX 3050 Ti) with one of the latest Intel 11th gen CPUs (the 8-core Core i9-11900H), with up to 48GB of DDR4 3200MHz SDRAM and up to 2TB of SSD storage with RAID0 support for lightning-fast performance.

Topping this off is a 16in QHD display with a refresh rate of 165Hz and 100% DCI-P3 coverage, plus a 94% screen-to-body ratio and ultra-slim bezels. Unlike last year’s model, it comes with a webcam squeezed in above the display in the centre, and Asus has been hard at work improving the sound system as well, with six built-in Dolby Atmos speakers with dual “force-cancelling” woofers.

The laptop has a 90Wh battery and, despite its beefy gaming credentials, it’s reasonably portable as well, weighing 1.9kg and measuring a mere 19.9m thick.

Asus ROG Zephyrus S17

Finally, the ROG Zephyrus S17 is the largest of the newly announced machines, with a 17in display, and is at the very top of Asus ROG lineup of laptops. It comes with the most powerful 8-core 11th gen Intel Core i9-1100H CPU, which Intel says delivers faster performance than AMD’s top-end Ryzen 9 5900HX, and combines this with a top-of-the-line Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 GPU. As for memory, it can be configured with up to 48GB of 3200MHz DDR4 RAM and can use up to three PCI-E SSDs.

It comes with either the choice of a G-Sync enabled QHD 165Hz panel or a 4K 120Hz panel, both with 100% DCI-P3 colour coverage and both with Dolby Vision support and Pantone validation.

Like its stablemates, it has a 90Wh battery, but unlike the other two laptops it has a special system that raises the keyboard up to a 5-degree angle, which Asus claims makes for “extra typing comfort while improving the cooling performance of the laptop”.

Add Asus’ superb optical-mechanical keyboard, which we’ve seen on the Asus Strix Scar 15 before, and the same six-speaker Dolby Atmos audio as on the ROG Zephyrus M16, and you have what looks like the ultimate all-round gaming powerhouse. Despite all that power, it’s slim, too, measuring less than 20mm thick.

There’s no word from Asus yet on pricing for the three laptops, with availability currently scheduled for “later this year”, according to the company.
