Get a free Note 9 when you buy a Samsung 4K TV

Let me make one thing clear before I begin: Samsung makes some of the best screens around. Whether the displays are five inches or 50, you know you’ll get a good viewing experience, which is why this offer is quite so tempting. Buy one of Samsung’s fancy QLED TV sets this Christmas, and you’ll be able to claim one of the company’s flagship smartphones free of charge. The handset you get depends on the TV you buy, so let’s get into the nitty-gritty. Which is the best deal? Well, here are the available options, their prices and the handset you get for your trouble. I’ve ordered them by screen size.

Let me stop you there before you eagerly click on the £15k Q900R – I’m afraid it’s out of stock, but the rest are all available.

So here’s a quick primer on the differences between them. First of all, the Q8C models are all curved, the idea of which is that it makes things more immersive. I personally wouldn’t bother paying extra for that, but knock yourself out if it matters for you. The ridiculously expensive Q900 models are 8K-ready. Given we still don’t have broadcast 4K, I’d again save your money if I were you, although our reviews editor did rave about its upscaling abilities in his hands-on review . That leaves the Q9, Q8F and Q8D. The Q9 offers the best overall performance, but as you can see, you’re paying a pretty penny for it. Between the Q8 and Q8D, it’s about how well it can reproduce an HDR image, because the D model has FALD (Full Array Local Dimming) for a better contract and, ultimately, a superior image. So, with all that in mind, what are our pick of the deals? As a price-sensitive consumer (cheapskate, if you prefer), my eye was immediately drawn to the 55in Q8D. Not only is this bafflingly the same price as the weaker Q8F, but it comes with the S9 Plus rather than the S9 – and that handset is doing a lot better at holding its £839 RRP. The same applies to the larger 65in models. Go buy it before they notice

If you have your heart set on getting a Note 9, then it’s definitely harder to get a real bargain – chiefly because it comes with the more expensive TVs. That said, with its £899 RRP, it definitely helps the £2,099 cost of the 55in Q9F feel less painful. Buy it now from Currys
