OS X makes it easy for users who would like to hide their desktop apps and shortcuts. This article will walk you through the easy way to hide media from the desktop of your Mac. Click on the Finder menu > Preferences > General. Then click on Show these items on the desktop.

Clear the checkboxes next to Hard disks, External disks, CDs, DVDs, and iPods and Connected servers.

Close the Finder Preferences to apply your new settings.
