Apple’s newly-launched iPhone 11 Pro Max is a phone worth getting excited about, but not all of us are fortunate enough to throw four-figured sums at the latest and greatest Apple handset. Mercifully, Apple’s iPhone XR sought to address that very problem late last year, but Apple’s cheapest iPhone wasn’t quite cheap enough at launch.

With the arrival of this year’s Black Friday looming on the horizon, though, iPhone XR contracts have steadily been dropping in price. For a limited time – the deal ends on 5 December, or while stocks last – the folks at Fonehouse are offering the 64GB iPhone XR with 100GB of data and no upfront fee for £34 a month on Three.

That means you’ll be paying a total of £816 by the time your 24-month contract ends which, according to my research, is the cheapest high-data contract you can currently buy. For comparison, if you picked up the handset SIM-free, it’ll cost you £599 – which is usually the most cost-efficient method – with the cheapest equivalent SIM-only data contracts costing around £34 a month.

If you do that maths, this means that the Fonehouse deal represents a total saving of £599. That means you’re essentially getting the handset for free, if you stick with the contract for the full 24-month period.

That’s certainly not a bad deal for a phone that’s still (almost) sitting at the top of the market. It might not be the best iPhone in the class, but that was never its main intention – the comparative cutbacks are minor when you consider the cost savings, and the XR’s value proposition is made even sweeter with this new contract deal.
